Fun Female and Boring!

Today I voted for the finalists in Cosmopolitan-aka: how to have an orgasm-magazine's Fun Fearless Female competition. The remaining nominees (and by the looks of it the earlier ones) consisted of models, actresses, designers, authors of chick-lit, tv cooks and other dull non fearless careers. The majority of whom were from commercial television/radio and were Caucasian. The designers clothes were about as boring and "right now" as you could get, not sure what's fearless or fun about designing carbon copies of everyone elses stuff for stick insects.

I'll stop now before you're too out-ranted to read my official rant.

After voting they offered a chance to win a couple of packets of tampons and panty liners from Libra and A nail polish, which are definately female products however everyone knows there is nothing remotely fun or fearless about having your period, except maybe wearing white pants, neither is painting ones nails particularly exciting. All you had to do to win the exciting prize pack was to write (in 24 words or less- which mine is clearly not) about your favorite "FFF".

Below is my entry.

My favorite FFF's are Carly Crutchfield, Kate Ellis, Anna Bligh & Jessica Mauboy. The first three because they are involved in areas with little female representation and are making more of a contribution to womens empowerment than say a fashion designer or model. I chose Jessica Mauboy not only because I prefer her music but because she was the only Indigenous person I could vote for and I feel that like the female politicians and property developer she is another woman breaking stereo-types which is very important.

I must say in regards to the TV personality it was hard to choose between a woman who hosts a dating show, a woman in a kitchen and a travel show host- none of which do anything to celebrate women.

I doubt I'm going to win the tampons now but I thought you ought to know that I feel your nominees are lacking in the fearless department - they may be fun but they're not doing anything to celebrate or promote women , which is what I thought this was about ( I could be wrong).
